A 12v, 24v or 240v diaphragm pump pressure switch normally fails in order to protect the pump and the pump motor and diagragm from major damage caused by an inbalance of pressure in the pump system. Not all pumps have built in pressure relief valves or internal bypasses and therefore your set up will possibly require tweaking with an accumulator tank, a pressure relief valve and/or a foot valve or non return valve dependant on your application and water supply type.
